$1,267,500 Settlement Wrongful Death / Motorcycle Accident
In June 2021, our client was traveling on a 45-mph roadway when a Chevy Suburban traveling in the opposite direction, made a sudden left-hand turn into his pathway. Our client’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Chevy Suburban and he was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the pavement where he died immediately from the impact.
We investigated the case and found video and camera footage from nearby businesses that captured the accident as it occurred. There was no question that the Defendant was negligent in turning directly in front of the motorcycle that had the right of way. The Defendant tried to allege that the accident was also caused by the fact that the motorcycle was significantly exceeding the speed limit.
We retained a very qualified expert to evaluate the Defendant’s allegations. Based on analysis of the video footage, information from the vehicle, and other physical evidence, he offered expert testimony that the accident would have happened regardless of the motorcycle driver’s speed because the driver of the Chevy Suburban turned directly in front of the motorcyclist.
At the end of the trial, The Yost Legal Group lawyers successfully argued that the family of the deceased should be awarded the full amount available under Maryland law. The family was awarded the maximum permitted amount allowed in Maryland of $1,267,500.
$1,200,000 Verdict Auto Accident / Transit Bus Runs Stop Sign
A passenger in a car was on his way to a family member’s funeral when he was severely injured. A transit bus operator failed to obey a stop sign. The man suffered fractures to his shoulder blade, right wrist and right femur that required multiple corrective surgeries totaling $85,000 in medical expenses. The bus company’s last offer was $230,000. In April 2017, the jury awarded $1.2 million dollars after a three-day trial. The verdict was reduced to $855,000 because of Maryland’s cap on non-economic damages.

$400,000 Verdict Wrongful Death / Police Officer Drives into Pedestrian
A Maryland State employee failed to see a stopped vehicle with its hazard lights activated on the highway and swerved into the shoulder, striking, and killing a man who had pulled onto the shoulder to retrieve a washing machine that fell out of the back of his pickup truck onto the roadway. The Yost Legal Group represented the family of the man who was struck and killed for the emotional harm suffered by the loss of their loved one. The State argued that the man was contributorily negligent and responsible for his own death in failing to properly strap-down the washing machine to his vehicle. The Yost Legal Group successfully argued that the deceased man’s negligence, if any, was not the proximate cause of the collision, and the judge agreed, awarding $400,000 to the family, the most money that can be awarded against the State of Maryland under Maryland law.
